ELMBRIDGE ROAD RUNNERS

INFORMATION SHEET

Elmbridge Road Runners are a small friendly road running club based at the Elmbridge Canoe Club, in Walton Lane, Weybridge, Surrey

There are around 70 members, both male and female, of mixed ability.

Membership is just £20 per annum which allows use of the Canoe Club House on club nights.

Club nights are Tuesday and Thursday at 19.00.(7 o'clock)

In the Winter both club nights are at the Canoe Club from where members typically run 5, 7 or 9 miles.

The Winter also sees us enter both mens and ladies teams in the Surrey Cross Country Leagues

together with a variety of other cross country races.

In the Summer, to add variety to the training, Thursdays switch to Oxshott Woods.

The Summer also sees us enter both mens and ladies teams in the Surrey Road League.

Club kit is available in the form of running shirts and shorts, reflective bibs, t-shirts, tracksters and sweatshirts.

There are two club competitions during the course of the year with trophies for the first three members in each competition:

The Trophy Series (Mens competition and Ladies competition).

The Handicap Series (Mens competition and Ladies competition).

Trophy Series 2008

Proposed Scoring System

In the period May to December, the Events Secretary will select a minimum of 10 Races of any type and distance to be designated Trophy Races for the year.

Scoring for each race will be as follows

In addition to the above scoring system, the following bonus points will be awarded

10 Points

New Age Graded Trophy Handicap Prize for 2008

To encourage everybody to participate in addition to a trophy for the 1st Man and Lady we will be awarding a prize for the 1st Man and Lady using our new “Age Graded” Handicap Schedule. Actual times will be adjusted using the Schedule and Points awarded accordingly based on the adjusted times.

The above systems have been designed to encourage more participants in the Trophy Series, Cross Country and Towpath Handicaps and to reward runners for entering races and supporting the Club.

Handicap Races

The Handicap Series consists of 6 races over a 5.6 mile course, each race having a staggered start

reflecting the performance of each member in their last handicap race.

The best 4 of the 6 races count.

The first member home scores 1 point (The second 2 ponts etc.).

The winner is the member with the least number of points from 4 races.

In addition

A "scratch" trophy is awarded to the fastest man and woman based on actual times with the scoring as above.

An "age standard" trophy is awarded for the best single performance over the six races.

(Performances are compared against age using tables compiled by the World Association of Veteran Athletes).

We stage our own 10K race in July each year. Members are not allowed to run (except those selected to represent us in the Surrey Road League, (of which our race is part) but are expected to help. (Our race has a good reputation locally and is our  main fundraising event of the year).

We have a number of social events during the year, typically:

A treasure trail / pub crawl

A post race barbecue

A Christmas dinner
